Job Description

Consultant - Gender Specialist Seconded to UNHCR to work on IDPs in NWFP

- Assisting UNHCR to analyze the quality, efficiency and effectiveness of existing response from gender perspective to identify gaps and challenges; and use this information to develop strategies for each sector/ cluster group to address the gaps identified in the initial analysis especially mapping of information on womens and girls and their specific needs.
- Participation in clusters to ensure attention to gender and womens issues in planning and programming, moreover, facilitating and supporting the integration of gender perspectives in the overall strategic planning and programming of clusters.
- Support to the UNHCR operations and ensuring GE commitments integration into the UNHCR response.
- Formulating specific interventions and plans based on capacity assessment and analysis.
- Monthly meeting with UNIFEM and UNHCR team.
- Capacity building of UNHCR team based on needs assessment and ad hoc needs.
- Conducting interviews of different actors involved.
- Travel across NWFP based on security situation.
- Liaise with major stakeholders and actors involved in the process.
- Participate and give feedback in consultations on gender disaggregated data.
- Catalyzing the formation of and/or facilitating the smooth. coordination of inter-agency, inter-cluster gender network focusing gender issues including GBV.
- Liaising with gender focal points in other agencies and organizations (including governments, INGOs, local NGOs and womens groups) to strengthen response.
- Mapping of the promising practices and lessons learned and preparing recommendations for UNIFEM and other donors/agencies on regular basis.

Required Skills

Minimum ten years experience in working with the Government, NGOs and international organizations on gender and women's issues, capacity building and social mobilization considered an asset.
Strong knowledge and experience of NWFP
Advanced degree in social sciences focus on gender issues and social sciences considered an asset.
Strong communication and writing skills in Pushtu, Urdu and English.
