Job Description

Under the technical directions of the Provincial and Federal Polio Eradication Team Leader, and the overall supervision of the WHO Representative, the incumbent will work as FCV Coordinator-Karachi, within the framework of national policies and guidelines defined in WHO programme and policy documents

1. Supplementary Immunization Activities

a)Support preparations, implementation and monitoring of supplementary immunization activities including microplanning, training and monitoring

b) Conduct post-campaign analysis of all three phases of campaign and prepare the action plan

c) Timely analysis of data and its use for corrective action

2. Disease Surveillance

a)Support surveillance activities (for AFP and VPDs) to ensure achievement/maintenance of certification standards through

b) Participating in the planning and in the implementation of active surveillance and routine reporting

c) Support training activities and supervision of surveillance/support staff in the area of assignment

d) Participation in the organization of advocacy/orientation meetings for health care providers

e) Ensuring proper case investigations, follow-up and classification of reported cases of AFP/VPDs

f) Regular analysis of surveillance data and monitoring indicators

3. Routine Immunization and PEI/EPI Synergy

a) Participating in the development of microplans for implementation of RED approach and ensure their proper implementation and monitoring

b) Coordinate with partners on activities related to routine immunization and ensure community participation

c) Timely analysis and interpretation of routine immunization data and its use for corrective action

d)Synergize PEI activities to have tangible impact on routine immunization activities

e)Liaise with different EPI/PEI partners and enlist continued commitment of national local authorities to stated goals

4. Capacity Building

a) Identify training need assessment of female community volunteers (FCVs), UC level staff and PEOs/DSOs in the assigned and plan capacity building sessions accordingly

b) Monitor capacity building sessions implementation in the areas of assignment

5. Coordination and oversight

a) Oversee activities of national support staff recruited by WHO working in the Polio eradication activities

b) Conduct regular staff meetings with PEOs, UC level staff and Supervisors

c) Conduct regular (weekly/monthly) performance evaluation of PEOs and UC level staff.

d) Ensure that performance evaluation data base is maintained regularly for all workers (vaccinators and supervisors, UC level staff)

6. Reporting and Communication

a) Submit regular weekly and monthly activity plans for the assigned areas

b)Prepare progress report of all the activities conducted in the assigned areas, with constraints and proposed action plan

c) Ensure that community engagement sessions are conducted in targeted areas aiming at covering missed children and creating demand for vaccination among the community

d) Ensure that religious support persons are performing in line with guidelines and programme needs


HEC Attested degrees are a pre-requisite for employment at WHO. During the recruitment process candidates may be required to present HEC attested degrees.
