Job Description

1. Map current activities on gender identifying gaps and synergies in Plan of action (PoA).

a) Using a gender-based analysis checklist, assess joint WHO-MoH programmes from a gender perspective.

b) Update, consolidate and ensure completion of WHO Gender, Women and Health Country Profile with other agencies and partners.

c) Ensure appropriate collection of information on gender and health activities, policies and programmes in Pakistan and develop information-sharing strategies and mechanisms among key gender and health stakeholders at national and provincial levels.

d) Contribute to further analysis of baseline study "Promoting Gender Analysis of Health Care Access and Utilization in Pakistan" in collaboration with the Institute of Public Health (IPH), University of Punjab and other partners as identified by WHO.

2. Support MoH and WHO in PoA implementation

a) Support MoH Gender Focal Point and Task Force in resource mobilization activities

b) Liaise with donors on implementation of donor funded specific activities (i.e., activity revisions, develop work plan, compile reports as required).

c) Conduct, or coordinate, training of WHO and MoH staff on gender analysis in health programmes.

d) Identify gender focal points in key WHO programmes and propose terms of reference for an internal gender focal point network.

e) Ensure WHO presence and that gender and health issues are raised and adequately addressed in national and provincial gender-related mechanisms.

f) Liaise with MoH gender focal point on related matters.

g) Liaise with other gender focal points in other agencies.

h) Liaise with Regional Adviser, Women, Health and Development, EMRO as necessary.

3. Contribute to overall functioning of Gender and Health Technical Task Force

a) Plan and coordinate Task Force Meetings, agendas and related outputs.

b) Develop Gender and Health Information Bulletin, or other dissemination strategies, to ensure communication and information sharing amongst Task Force members and other gender-related mechanisms in Pakistan on Task Force activities and PoA progress.

c) Contribute to development of baseline assessment for monitoring and evaluation framework set out in PoA.

d) Contribute to realization of Gender and Health Technical Task Force activities as required.

Required Skills

Experience in conducting gender training sessions to different audiences.

Experience with gender analysis and its application to health matters for women and men, boys and girls.

Familiarity with key gender and womens health issues in Pakistan.

Familiarity with Pakistan health system and gender mainstreaming initiatives (health and non health focused).

Excellent communication skills in oral and written Urdu and English required. Knowledge of other Pakistani languages an asset.
