MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Travelling regularly throughout Pakistan, KPK, AJK, GB, Balochistan and other seriously affected areas, works in close consultation with UNICEF HQ and the Regional Office in identifying, obtaining and producing feature stories and other material (print, video, audio, images, and/or web, etc) to facilitate global/regional advocacy and fundraising activities, particularly in support of National Committee and PFP efforts to mobilize resources.
- Identifies the need for additional feature materials/activities, such as radio and television programmes, publications, photographs, websites, etc., and manages their production and distribution to the target audiences.
- Assists in organizing other media visits, as required, to project sites, facilitating photo coverage and TV footage.
SPECIFIC TASKS:
Production of Communication Materials
Deliver communication materials for NatCom fundraising including:
oHuman interest stories with photographs and/or video footage.
oNews stories based on UNICEF responses and activities in Pakistan.
oPhoto galleries.
oCase studies.
Provide daily content for the UNICEF website.
Regularly maintain a blog and upload posts with accompanying images or audio/video footage; utilise other relevant social media, as appropriate.
Planning
Contribute to a weekly calendar according to which the production and delivery of information will be carried out. Distribute to Pakistan Country Office Advocacy & Communication team to share with PFP and DOC focal points.
Media Relations
In close coordination with PFP Media & Emergencies Communication Specialist and DOC Emergencies Communication Officer:
Assist in the provision of, and logistics for, arranging live interviews from the field with UNICEF spokespeople.
Assist NatCom requests for information and practical support in Pakistan.
Flag any potential emerging issues that may hamper UNICEF image or positioning.
Required Skills
Knowledge of current theories and practices in communication, research, planning and strategy, and the role of mass media.
Excellent English ability; must be able to express ideas and concepts clearly and concisely in written and oral form.
Strong skills in writing and producing feature articles/stories for traditional and electronic media.
Ability to effectively manage relationships with media representatives, government officials and other UNICEF partners.
Technical competence in producing written and visual content for various media formats eg. print, audio, video, and/or still photography, etc.
Knowledge of computer systems, internet, and various office applications.
Proven ability to work as part of a multicultural team.
Initiative, passion and commitment to UNICEFs mission and professional values.
Knowledge of UNICEF, United Nations or other international organizations; knowledge and understanding of humanitarian issues and emergency response
Knowledge of global human rights and protection issues, specifically relating to children and women
Willingness to travel frequently throughout Pakistan to flood affected areas; ability to work and live in sometimes difficult conditions
